Physical therapy is a field of rehabilitation in which therapists work with people to accomplish goals that help a person return to a normal level of activity.
TRC’s clinics have physical therapists and physical therapy assistants with more than 60 years of combined experience. This enables the clinic to effectively treat outpatients from the community with various injuries.
TRC Physical Therapy also utilizes the Biodex Balance Assessment Program for Concussion and Fall Risk Screening and Conditioning. The Biodex system brings together cognitive and functional objective assessment to determine a persons risk for falling. The Biodex system also has been utilized to provide an accurate assessment tool for concussion management. The clinics can accommodate all age groups, and the clinicians are experienced with issues faced at any age.

Cain Sonney

Cain Sonney is a Physical Therapist at our Diagnostic and Treatment Centers Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. Cain obtained his doctorate of physical therapy from Gannon University, where he also received his bachelor degree in sport and exercise science. Cain was drawn to explore a career as a physical therapist because of his experiences in the Armed Forces. While working on his doctorate, Sonney did one of his clinical rotations in The Resource Center’s physical therapy department on Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. While there, he interacted with a number of people with developmental disabilities who participate in the day habilitation program located in that building. His experience at TRC led him to seek a full-time position at the agency. Cain likes working one on one with his physical therapy patients and helping them reach their full potential.
Ryan Rice
PTA
Ryan Rice is a Physical Therapist Assistant at our Diagnostic and Treatment Centers Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. Ryan obtained a associates of science degree in Physical Therapist Assistant at Mercyhurst North East University. He decided to become a Physical Therapist Assistant because he had an older sister who needed and received physical therapy due to suffering a traumatic brain injury in a car accident an interest in physical health and conditioning. Ryan’s first position out of school was at The Resource Center due to his sister who received services at TRC. He enjoys the people he serves as well as the positive work environment.

Occupational Therapy Services
Occupational therapy assists people in developing the “skills for the job of living” necessary for independent and satisfying lives. Services include customized treatment programs to improve one’s ability to perform daily activities; comprehensive home and work evaluations with adaptation recommendations; performance skills assessments and treatment; adaptive equipment recommendations and usage training; and guidance to family members and care givers.
Occupational Therapy can assist with:
- work injuries, including repetitive stress injuries
- limitations following stroke/heart attack
- birth injuries, learning problems or developmental disabilities, spinal cord injuries, or amputations
- ADHD and/or sensory needs
- arthritis, multiple sclerosis, or other serious, chronic conditions

Abby Courtney is a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant-Licensed at our Diagnostic and Treatment Center on Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. Abby completed the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at Jamestown Community College. She entered the field of Occupational Therapy because of the rewards it offers in being able “to see growth in individuals you are able to work with and being able to assist them in getting where they want to be in life.” Abby is no stranger to The Resource Center, because her mother, Heather, has worked here for more than 25 years.

Adaptive Equipment Therapy Services
Adaptive equipment is any device, tool, or machine that is used to assist with any daily task. Adaptive equipment in occupational therapy helps those with short-term or long-term disabilities where they may be having trouble performing their normal routines.
Adaptive equipment is important in occupational therapy because in order to truly improve the quality of one’s life, giving them as much independence as they’re capable is key.

Speech Therapy Services
Speech Therapy is used to treat voice disorders including pitch, stress, loudness and quality. Our speech pathologists will work with you to improve your ability to communicate clearly and effectively with those around you.

Shayna Caine is a Speech-Language Pathologist at our Diagnostic and Treatment Center on Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown. She earned a bachelor of science degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences at Edinboro University before obtaining her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Kent State University. Shayna is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) and has earned ASHA’s Certificate of Clinical Competence. She chose to become a Speech-Language Pathologist because communication is important in enabling people to express their feelings, convey information, connect to other people, and advocate for themselves.
